The Donga Folk Music Festival is a celebration of Korean traditional music that has been held annually in Jeju Island since 1978. As a music enthusiast, I had the opportunity to attend this year's festival and was blown away by the richness and diversity of Korean traditional music. In this blog post, I will share my experience and highlight some of the unique aspects of this festival.
One of the most striking aspects of the Donga Folk Music Festival is the variety of traditional instruments used. From the gayageum, a zither-like instrument with 7-8 strings, to the ajaeng, a 2-stringed fiddle, to the dae-gum, a large, flat drum, each instrument adds a unique flavor to the music. The combination of these instruments creates a rich and complex sound that is both soothing and invigorating.
