저는 이민자로서 새로운 나라에 정착하는 데 상당한 어려움을 겪었습니다. 그리고 나에게 그 나라는 캄보디아이다. 많은 사람들이 캄보디아를 열대 낙원으로 생각할 수도 있지만 현실은 특히 문화와 관습에 익숙하지 않은 사람들에게는 집이라고 부르기 힘든 곳이 될 수 있다는 것입니다.
제가 직면한 가장 큰 어려움 중 하나는 더욱 그렇습니다. 캄보디아 이민자로서 언어 장벽이 있습니다. 관광 산업에서는 영어가 널리 사용되지만 현지 언어인 크메르어는 특히 주요 도시 이외의 지역에서는 널리 사용되지 않습니다. 이로 인해 현지인과 소통하고 쇼핑, 이동 등 일상적인 상황을 탐색하는 것이 어려워졌습니다.
제가 직면한 또 다른 어려움은 문화적 차이입니다. 캄보디아 문화는 불교에 깊이 뿌리를 두고 있으며, 존중과 위계의 개념이 사회에 깊이 뿌리박혀 있습니다. 외국인으로서 저는 복잡한 사회 역학을 헤쳐나가고 의도치 않게 누군가에게 불쾌감을 주는 것을 피하는 것이 어렵다는 것을 깨달았습니다.

As an immigrant myself, I have had my fair share of struggles when it comes to settling in a new country. And for me, that country is Cambodia. While many people may think of Cambodia as a tropical paradise, the reality is that it can be a challenging place to call home, especially for those who are not familiar with the culture and customs.
One of the biggest challenges I have faced as an immigrant in Cambodia is the language barrier. While English is widely spoken in the tourism industry, the local language, Khmer, is not as widely spoken, especially outside of the major cities. This has made it difficult for me to communicate with locals and navigate everyday situations, such as shopping and getting around.
Another challenge I have faced is the cultural differences. Cambodian culture is deeply rooted in Buddhism and the concept of respect and hierarchy is deeply ingrained in the society. As a foreigner, I have found it difficult to navigate the complex social dynamics and avoid offending anyone unintentionally.
